Green Day Records

For many fans this band of three gave a fresh feel to the punk rock genre.  Their first major success came with Dookie in 1994 and over the next 10 plus years, Green Day garnered three Grammy Awards and Record of the Year in 2006 with Boulevard of Broken Dreams.  Their albums include: Insomniac; Nimrod; Warning; and American Idiot, a rock opera, in 2004.

In the summer of 2003 the band began work on new material for a new album, initially named Cigarettes and Valentines.  They had 20 tracks laid down when the tapes were stolen.  This was a major setback but not a show stopper.  Rather than try to recreate what they had done, Green Day started all over.

The resulting 2004 album, American Idiot, came out to be number 1 on the Billboard charts, the band's first ever album to top the chart. The album was labeled as a "punk rock opera" and the story follows the journey of the fictitious "Jesus of Suburbia". American Idiot won the 2005 Grammy for "Best Rock Album" and the band swept the 2005 MTV music awards, winning a total of seven of the eight awards they were nominated for, including the coveted Viewer's Choice Award.

2005 saw the band undertake a world tour that included stops in Japan, Australia, South America and the UK, where they drew a crowd of 130,000 people over a span of two days. The final shows of its 2005 world tour were in Sydney, Australia, and Melbourne, Australia, in December.

Even while touring, Green Day found time to do two concert recordings at the Milton Keynes National Bowl in England.  These recordings were released as a live CD and DVD called Bullet in a Bible on November 15, 2005. This CD/DVD featured hits from American Idiot as well as a few songs from most of its previous albums.

In 2007, Green Day released a version of a John Lennon song Working Class Hero that was on the album "Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur". The band performed the song on the season finale of American Idol.  It was nominated for a Grammy in 2008, however, that award went to The White Stripes' "Icky Thump".

Green Day has appeared in The Simpsons movie in 2007and they sing the theme song.  It was released as a single on July 24, 2007.

It looks like Green Day is aiming for 2008 for the release of their new album, so far called Untitled 8th Studio Album.
